Preparing for your practical driving test is about more than learning the routes. It is about developing safe, confident habits that you can use on any road.
- Practise the skills the examiner looks for: observation, vehicle control, positioning, judging speed and making safe decisions at junctions and roundabouts.
- Practise in different conditions. Try different roads, times of day and levels of traffic with your instructor.
- Talk to your instructor before booking. They can tell you whether you are ready and help you choose a sensible time.
- Look after yourself. Get a good night’s sleep and arrive in plenty of time.
- Stay calm. A small mistake does not mean you have failed, so keep driving as you have practised.
- Take mock tests. Mock tests are part of your lessons as your test gets closer, so you know what to expect on the day.
Preparing for Your Theory Test
Before you can take your practical test, you need to pass the DVSA theory test, which includes a hazard perception section. Practise the multiple-choice questions and hazard perception clips regularly, and ask your instructor if there is anything in the Highway Code you would like to go through.
Our lessons prepare you for the practical test, and tests are taken at the Burgess Hill test centre. No driving school can guarantee a pass, but good preparation helps you feel ready.
